Russian painter Andrey Remnev was born in Yakhroma, a town not far from Moscow. Since childhood, his native rugged landscape composed of scattered villages, rivers and hills has made a significant impression upon him.
Remnev's exquisite works are captivating not only due to their brilliant colour harmony and stylisation, but also the artist's use of bold and modern composition, adding to the aura of temporal ambiguity.
This clear influence of the past is not accidental, however, as he spent much time directly studying 15th-17th century Russian painting. His works are also influenced by ancient icon painting, Russian art of the 18th century and Russian Constructivism.
